Developing the Restart a Heart campaign: How to initiate, plan and maximise coverage to get the most out of your CPR campaign based on the Yorkshire Ambulance Service experience

Summary: Hear from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Restart a Heart campaign team about their experiences and work with them to translate the UK model to develop a model that works for you and can be implemented across any community.

Synopsis: World Restart a Heart Day is a global initiative to increase awareness about the importance of bystander CPR and to increase actual bystander CPR rates worldwide. The campaign is held annually on or around October 16th. 2022 was the fifth global campaign, however, the involvement across North America in the global effort has generally been less than other areas.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) delivered the first mass training in the UK for Restart a Heart in 2014, delivered the first international partnership in 2016 and have since been considered the exemplar which other services have followed. The Restart a Heart campaign run by YAS has now trained over 210,000 young people on how to perform CPR since 2014.

This session will allow attendees to learn the history and the evolution of the campaign, consider successes and failures and ultimately how the model might translate to the US system. The workshop should inspire, guide and enable the attendee to deliver mass CPR training across their communities. Attendees will learn from and interact with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service campaign team about how to plan, initiate, deliver and maximise impact.
