Dr. Karen O'Connell is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) attending and Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. Since 2007, she has been an active contributor within the Maryland EMSC program and has served as Associate Pediatric Medical Director for the Maryland EMS system. In these roles she provides evidence-based guidance on pediatric care, quality assurance and quality improvement. She is an educator and remains active in teaching PEPP, APLS, and PALS courses, prehospital and hospital CME conferences, and the Maryland Resuscitation Academy (RA). She is also a resuscitation researcher and co-investigator with the Videography in Pediatric Emergency Resuscitation (VIPER) ,which uses video review during resuscitation to investigate trauma and medical emergency department care.
