Learning Objectives:
Using my experience as an athletic training educator and member of the ILCOR- First Aid Taskforce, participants will be able to:
1. Define and differentiate between the different types of heat illnesses and their clinical features, including exertional heat stroke.
2. Identify, discuss, and implement the equipment and emergency preparation needed to properly prevent, recognize, and manage exertional heat illness in the out-of-hospital setting.
3. Identify, discuss, and implement strategies to incorporate evidence-based treatment recommendations to minimize the risk of exertional heat stroke.
4. Implement pedagogical strategies to improve student learning relative to exertional heat stroke evidence-based treatment recommendations.
