Summary: The Resuscitation Academy is a cutting edge, high yield course aimed at improving survival from cardiac arrest. In this presentation from first-time RA hosts, attendees will learn and discuss key components to hosting a successful RA.

Synopsis: The Resuscitation Academy (RA) is a cutting edge, high yield course aimed at improving survival from cardiac arrest. Ideally, it includes members who represent each link in the chain of survival. Currently there are only a few locations which offer this course. Hopefully, there would be many locations offering RA courses in order to make the experience accessible to as many people as possible. The UC Davis Fire Department recently supported their first Resuscitation Academy. This presentation shares experiences, successful and not, with people who may be contemplating an plan to host their own. The goal of this presentation is to facilitate more groups conducting their own Resuscitation Academy while addressing perceived barriers to hosting, finding faculty, funding, and promoting to potential participants.

Learning Objectives:

  • At the end of this program attendees will be able to list 3 solutions to common barriers to hosting a Resuscitation Academy in their own community.
  • At the end of this program attendees will be able to list 3 reasons to host a Resuscitation Academy in their community.
  • This presentation will include ways to educate citizens that can lead to a comprehensive change to a culture of excellence and improved CPR training in the community, schools and workplace.
  • This presentation will include components of a high quality collaborative cardiovascular and resuscitation program in a dispatch, EMS and / or healthcare system that has demonstrated improvement in survival from SCA.
