Summary: Inspired by a local tragedy, a high school senior and EMT is partnering with her school district and local EMS agencies to develop a High School EMS Club - an innovative approach to create a zero-response time and improve survival from cardiac arrest.

Synopsis: The creation of an EMS club for high school students offers the opportunity to empower our youth to become engaged and make a difference. Learn how this group has developed a standardized equipment bag, which includes an AED and other first-aid supplies that can be taken to sporting or community events,“staffed” by volunteer members of the EMS club and how these students are trained to provide additional resources to our students and community and support a zero-minute response for time sensitive emergencies.

Learning Objectives:

Demonstrate an innovative approach to improving bystander chest compressions and early defibrillation by empowering and engaging youth in a High School EMS Club.
To inspire audience members and provide the toolbox needed for audience members to develop similar programs in their schools and communities.
This presentation will include ways to educate citizens that can lead to a comprehensive change to a culture of excellence and improved CPR training in the community, schools and workplace.
This presentation will discuss ways to advance Public Access AED placement and utilization.
