Summary: No research challenges the status quo more then the DOSE VF RCT trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Hear a detailed review of the trial results, new research emanating from the trial as well as training techniques to implement these interventions.

Synopsis: No research challenges the status quo in the treatment of refractory ventricular fibrillation more then the Double Sequential External Defibrillation for Refractory Ventricular Fibrillation (DOSE VF). The trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, has garnered international attention and has changed practice worldwide. Hear a detailed review of the trial results, new research emanating from the trial itself as well as training techniques to implement both vector change and DSED in fire and EMS services regardless of the type of defibrillators used. The presentation addresses some of the frequently asked questions which have arisen since the publication of the trial

Learning Objectives:

  • Introduce the audience to the concept of vector change and DSED for refractory ventricular fibrillation.
  • Describe research in the area of alternate defibrillation strategies that may impact guidelines and outcomes for patients presenting in refractory ventricular fibrillation.
  • Demonstrate techniques to implement alternate defibrillation strategies in your system regardless of the type of defibrillator being employed.
  • This presentation will describe one or more survivor / rescuer stories that can be used to illustrate an effective chain of survival for cardiac arrest.
