Summary: Pediatric Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: join us for a discussion about at-risk groups, access to and delivery of best possible care, and opportunities for innovation.

Synopsis: This presentation will begin with a review of the epidemiology of pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (POHCA) in Ontario, Canada's most populous province- specifically discussing incidence rates (rising) and at-risk populations (marginalized, low income, and rural). I will present potential solutions to address these findings. Next, I will present our local experience with cardiac arrest care and post cardiac arrest care in the pre-hospital, transportation and hospital settings with a focus on common challenges in these settings. Finally, I will present the PRIME Trial- a trial designed to address disparities in access to care (access to epinephrine in pre-hospital setting) and challenges to following guidelines (early epinephrine).

Learning Objectives:

Describe strategies to test and implement innovative ideas in POHCA, rare condition. Inspire clinicians, leaders, and researchers to evaluate their local resuscitation response.
This presentation will include components of a high quality collaborative cardiovascular and resuscitation program in a dispatch, EMS and / or healthcare system that has demonstrated improvement in survival from SCA.
This presentation will include strategies for implementing data collection and quality improvement programs in an ECC system to support accountability and reporting.
This presentation will describe one or more survivor / rescuer stories that can be used to illustrate an effective chain of survival for cardiac arrest.
