Summary: Rethink the process of early activation and deployment of ECPR by routing to nearest cannulation center and coordinating transfer to an ECMO center for ongoing care using the principles of a hub and spoke model.

Synopsis: The process between compressions and ECPR is a complex and carefully managed series of events, aimed at supporting the heart and lungs to improve a patient’s chance of survival following cardiac arrest. Outcomes of early cannulation can be significant, as it provides immediate and efficient support for the heart and lungs as causes of arrest are determined.

This presentation will provide the attendees with the tools necessary to reduce delays in ECPR activation by increasing available cannulation sites while improving teamwork and communication between the multidisciplinary team members.

Explain the process for ECPR activation and early cannulation at nearest available center, with steps to successful transfer to ECMO center. Describe the steps to begin implementation of our cannulate and ship model at your institution.
