Summary: Mechanical CPR (mCPR) devices are not only an innovation that can optimize compressions and support HQCPR, but they can also help to support the physical and psychological safety of staff during cardiac arrest resuscitation events.

Synopsis: Mechanical CPR (mCPR) devices are not only an innovation that can optimize compressions and support HQCPR, but they can also help to support the physical and psychological safety of staff during cardiac arrest resuscitation events. Mechanical CPR devices can be quickly connected to a patient, to allow for optimized compressions, staff safety is supported in prevention of injuries related to poor body mechanics with compressions during cardiac arrest events. To further support safety of the code team leader, mCPR supports psychological safety for the leader by decreasing the mental load of constantly ensuring code team responders are performing adequate manual compressions during each event. As well, when the gold standard of resuscitation, HQCPR is being performed, all code team responders have the psychological safety of knowing they were able to focus fully on their expected role during the event, and HQCOR was optimized mechanically, allowing for optimized cerebral perfusion pressure for improved patient survival.

  • Describe the role and significance of Mechanical CPR.
  • Review Cardiac Arrest responses, best practices as defined by the AHA and current research, and possible errs of safety.
  • Compare traditional arrest events with mechanical CPR to validate improved safety.
  • This presentation will describe three (3) strategies for implementing effective support systems for cardiac arrest victims, survivors and their families and rescuers.
