NFL's Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs and Policy
Jeff Miller is the National Football League’s Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs and Policy. In this role, he manages the league's communications and public affairs and oversees work on player health and safety.
Miller has led the league's ongoing efforts to improve the safety of the game since 2012. During his tenure, the league has driven innovation in protective equipment technologies and in the use of data and engineering to advance the game itself through rules changes and techniques, in addition to supporting independent medical research and advancing overall player wellness. These efforts have led to a sustained 25% reduction in concussions in each of the last five seasons, an overall 5% reduction in injuries in the 2022 season and a seven-year low in injuries in the 2022 preseason.
During the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Miller directed the NFL’s response to COVID-19. A set of COVID-19 protocols developed with medical experts allowed the 2020 season – which took place before the widespread availability of vaccines – to be played in full and on schedule. As the NFL navigated the pandemic, it shared lessons and insights with the scientific community, relevant government bodies, and the broader public.
Miller founded the NFL’s Washington, DC Governmental and Public Affairs office and continues to oversee the league’s work with the federal government and state legislatures. Inspired by Zack Lystedt's story and his family's advocacy, Miller led a national campaign to pass youth sports concussion laws in all 50 states.
Prior to joining the NFL in 2008, Miller served for a decade as Chief Counsel and Staff Director for the Antitrust and Business Competition Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. He earned his J.D. from University of Chicago Law School and his B.A. from University of Pennsylvania.
