Ambulance Care Assistant
Yorkshire Ambu!ance Service NHS Trust
Wakefield, England, United Kingdom
I am Chris Solomons, I am 62 years old and I work for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and have done for the last 30 years. I started of as a Call Handler, progressing to an Emergency Medical Dispatcher dealing with 999/911 calls, then I became a Rapid Response Co-ordinator dealing with the Air Ambulance, CFR's and BASICS Doctors. I then went to work for the Yorkshire AIr Ambulance, dispatching the helicopters to major incidents, such as RTC, Falls from great heights, acces problems, cardiac arrests etc. Prior to this I was in the Royal Air Force and served for 16.5 years. I am married to Pam, and have been for 40 years. We have 2 grown up children, Lee, who is 37, and Kerry, who is 34. We also have 4 lovely grand children, of which 2 were not born when I had my cardiac arrest, which was filmed by the BBC for program 'Helicopter Heroes'. My arrest happened in 2010 on July 24th. Becasue my arrest was filmed, it has been seen all over the world by millions. It is used by many emergency services and other first aid training companies, again, from all over the world. I feel privileged that it is being used for the reason it is supposed to be used.
I have been honored to have travellled the world to talk about my arrest, and helping to raise awareness in early CPR and early Defibrillation.
