Dr. John (Jack) Perkins completed his medical school training at Drexel University's MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He then completed a dual residency In emergency and internal medicine at the University of Maryland, in Baltimore, MD. He currently serves as an associate professor of emergency, internal, and family medicine at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. He also is an assistant residency director with the Virginia Tech Carilion Emergency Medicine residency program. Professionally his interests include emergency cardiology and infectious diseases in the emergency department. He founded the Compress and Shock Foundation in 2017 due to witnessing first hand as an emergency physician the poor outcomes suffered by victims of out of hospital cardiac arrest when they did not receive early bystander CPR and AED use. He is committed to bringing equitable access to these life-saving skills to all.
