Principal, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivor
Dorothy Simon Elementary School
ROCKTON, IL, United States
Heather Baker is a school Principal from Illinois who experienced Sudden Cardiac Arrest at the age of 28 with no warning signs or pre-existing conditions. After her colleagues at school saved her life with CPR/AED, Heather began advocating for CPR/AED training in schools and became a volunteer for Project ADAM in Chicago and the American Heart Association. For her doctoral research, Heather performed a survey study that examined the cardiac emergency preparedness of over 1200 school staff in Illinois. Heather has shared her story as a keynote speaker for over 50 speaking events and has CPR/AED trained over 3000 individuals to date as a certified instructor, for which she was awarded the "Inspiring 815" Award in Rockford, IL. While spreading awareness, she continues to work as a school Principal and Adjunct Professor. She lives in Northern Illinois with her husband Paul, son Easton (an adorable baby with a congenital heart defect), a large cat, and a silly labrador retriever.
