Dr. Franzos is a former Navy pilot turned physician specializing in Cardiology, Aerospace, and Internal Medicine. A retired Navy Captain, he is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University (USU). Dr. Franzos completed medical school at USU, then residency and fellowship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Franzos served in many leadership roles, including Chief of Medicine, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Force Medical Readiness, and Deputy Chief Operations Officer for all of Navy Medicine. He transformed Military Medicine with evidence-based data to improve medical evaluations for accession, retention, and disability. He has authored guidance on post-COVID-19 return to exercise and focused on preventing exercise-related collapse. His research foci are the use of artificial intelligence in cardiovascular diagnostics and pre-participation examinations for competitive athletics and military service.
