Summary: Virtual CPR training can continue to be an opportunity for training, confidence and skill building, and increased awareness. Learn about resources and ways to increase participation through social media.

Synopsis: CPR training has been a mainstay of community CPR engagement. However, COVID changed how we connected with the broader community. In a partnership with the American Heart Association and the HeartRescue Project, our team was able to develop FREE virtual CPR training sessions. These zoom-based trainings were promoted through social media and received public attention after online articles and a news release. The sessions were offered in both English and Spanish and had up to 40 participants. When the pandemic ended, we saw an opportunity to continue virtual training as a way to offer convenient CPR and AED education. These virtual sessions have continued to grow and expand. These sessions have become a way to expand training and empower community members to train their friends and family. It provides support and encouragement to increase confidence in providing emergency care when it is needed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Focus on ways to expand CPR awareness and increase participation in courses and training.
  • Understand critical components of community awareness and confidence.
  • This presentation will include ways to educate citizens that can lead to a comprehensive change to a culture of excellence and improved CPR training in the community, schools and workplace.
  • This presentation will describe one or more survivor / rescuer stories that can be used to illustrate an effective chain of survival for cardiac arrest.
