Summary: Resiliency in a caretaker’s life. Join us to explore the highs, lows, and pitfalls that may be encountered by caretakers in service to others as the presenters share their real-life stories about the path of their careers and the need for self-care.

Synopsis: People who want to help others spend time educating themselves, practicing skills, and dedicating time to their service of others. Whether paid or volunteer, the potential impact on the both the family and career caretaker can be significant. A response to a single incident or a lifetime of tragedy can exert a toll that is often not recognized by the caregiver themselves.

Understand the path of a career paramedic, from a new EMT to a seasoned medic to a person spiraling out of control – spoken by the person who’s life it is. You’ll hear about potential indicators of trouble, personal and professional challenges encountered, finding a pathway back, tools to utilize for success, and turning it all into a strength to help others. Seen from both a clinical and street level perspective, attendees will evaluate for themselves through the experience of the presenters as to where they are in taking care of themselves as well as exploring ways to enhance their lives and increasing their resiliency. Whether family member, friend, pre-hospital medicine, or in-hospital personnel, attendees from all walks of caretakeing will be able to take away new insights and skills to care for themselves

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will be able to identify at least 3 areas of their personal and/or professional life that may be impacted by their caretaker role and what to watch out for.
  • Attendees will be able to identify at least 3 coping strategies/tolls to enhance their personal and professional resiliency.
  • This presentation will include ways to educate citizens that can lead to a comprehensive change to a culture of excellence and improved CPR training in the community, schools and workplace.
  • This presentation will describe three (3) strategies for implementing effective support systems for cardiac arrest victims, survivors and their families and rescuers.
